For those interested in the name of the clan it comes from the Unit I served under from the Idaho National Guard who recently returned from Afghanistan and here are some words from Governor Otter on there recently deployment:
"I join all Idahoans in expressing tremendous pride in the men and women of the 1-183rd, and their important contribution to fighting terrorism and tyranny on the other side of the world so we need not face it here at home."
"The families of these deployed soldiers also have our continuing support and gratitude for their sacrifice during the deployment. It will be great to have our brave troops back home in Idaho."

And Here is the Unit History:
The 1st Battalion, 183rd Aviation serves as the air component of the Idaho Army National Guard. Armed with AH-64 Apache attack helicopters and UH-60 Blackhawk utility aircraft, the 183rd was one of the highest scoring Army National Guard aviation units to become combat certified at Fort Hood, Texas. Headquartered at Gowen Field in Boise, the battalion continues to set the pace for Army National Guard aviation units across the country.

The 1-183 Attack Helicopter is located in Boise at Gowen Field. The missions of the National Guard differ from the Army in that the National Guard typically supports three missions instead of one primary mission. The missions of the 1-183rd are as follows. The Wartime Mission is to destroy enemy armored, mechanized and other massed forces through the use of aerial firepower, mobility and shock effect. The State Mission is to provide units/personnel trained and equipped for immediate deployment in support of natural disasters and civil disturbances within the State of Idaho as an aid to civil authorities. The Community Support Mission is to provide units/personnel in support of community events/activities.

The 1-183 Attack Helicopter was organized and Federally recognized 10 August 1953 in the Idaho Army National Guard at Boise as Headquarters and Service Company and Medical Detachment, 882d Engineer Battalion. Above units consolidated 1 July 1959 and consolidated unit converted and redesignated as the Aviation Company, 116th Armored Cavalry. Redesignated 1 January 1968 as Troop N, 116th Armored Cavalry. Redesignated 1 June 1978 as the Air Troop, 116th Armored Cavalry. Expanded, reorganized, and redesignated 1 September 1989 as the 183d Aviation, a parent regiment under the United States Army Regimental System, to consist of the 1st Battalion.

Approximately 300 Idaho Army National Guardsmen and women served in Bosnia in 2001 and 2002. The 1st Battalion, 183rd Aviation from Boise sent approximately 200 soldiers and 16 AH-64 Apache attack helicopters to Bosnia beginning in September 2001. They returned to Idaho in April 2002. The Battalion was part of a larger force commanded by the 29th Infantry Division, Virginia National Guard.

The 1/183rd deployed again from 2005 - 2007 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Southwest Asia. Nearly 300 Idaho Cotizen Soldiers engaged in the Global War on Terror.
